health&fitness: Never Skip Breakfast Again!

SO we've all been told at one point or another that breakfast is the most important meal of the day...but soo many people skip it because they think they don't need it, they don't have time or what ever reason..but it's so important!! Today I'm going to share with you some really quick, easy and healthy breakfast ideas (and tips), so you never have a reason to skip it again!

TIP NUMBER ONE! if you're someone who doesn't eat breakfast because you don't have enough time try some of these ideas...
Put a piece of toast in the toaster while you're getting ready, then about 5 minutes before you head out the door its super easy to spread whatever you want on it and run out the door! I recommend low fat cream cheese or natural peanut butter :) (the natural kind is a LOT healthier because a lot of the over processed kinds have something called hydrogenated vegetable oil in them which, as well as being completely unnatural, also has more bad fats than animal fat). If you want a little bit extra grab a piece of fruit as well :)
Another super fast breakfast that's often overlooked is smoothies! Just put your favorite fruits in a blender with some milk or yogurt and in a minute it will be completely ready to just pour in a travel mug! They're also crazy healthy and if you put the right things in they can completely suppress your appetite until lunch!
Something else I like to do is keep quick (and non perishable!!) foods in my locker in case I completely run out of time one morning. I recommend a granola bar or protein bar, but be careful it's not just a chocolate bar in disguise! If it's really sugary you'll crash halfway through first period! Look for something with no more than 10-15 grams of sugar, at least 4 grams of fiber (that will keep you full longer), and since it's going to be your meal replacement, not a snack, it should have about 200-300 calories, otherwise it won't provide enough energy. This year I'm also bringing protein powder to mix with water (or sometime skim milk from the caf) for after early morning workouts, but it's definitely an acquired taste and not really necessary if you haven't just worked out, plus a granola bar will totally provide enough protein for everyday. I also keep a package of instant coffee because my caf has a hot water machine that anyone can use. :) (Well maybe not really, but they usually don't get that angry when you come use it :P)

TIP NUMBER TWO! if you usually skip breakfast because you're not hungry in the morning try these super light breakfasts...
A yogurt cup and a handful of trailmix. This is such a tiny breakfast, but will provide a ton of nutrients! Protein and calcium from the yogurt, and a source of iron, potassium and zinc from the trailmix! Also, a tip for when it's still hot out: put the yogurt in the freezer the night before! so good :)
A small bowl of cereal or granola (with either milk or yogurt) and a glass of orange juice.
A piece  of fruit, a granola bar, or small fruit smoothie!

TIP NUMBER THREE! just some random information I have acquired and thought i'd share with you :)...
Mix lean protein with complex carbs (think starches like whole wheat toast, granola, oatmeal, over sugary carbs). The carbs will make you feel full right away, while the protein will keep you full longer.
Start off healthy! People who skip breakfast in the morning, or eat a small one will little nutrients are a lot more likely to crave junk food later in the day than people who eat a healthy breakfast.
Avoid eating out, getting takeout/fast food (even cafeteria food) as often as possible for breakfast! Restaurant foods tend to have a lot of hidden fat, sugar and sodium, and most places only offer things like muffins (often loaded with sugar and bad fats) or greasy eggs and meat. Obviously it's okay to have them once in a while! For everyday, stick to homeade breakfasts. A healthy option to order however is fruit and yogurt or a whole wheat bagel. :)
Be careful with "special" coffees! As good as a mocha with whip may sound, it could have as much bad fat as 7 strips of bacon! Instead ask for your drink with extra foam and nonfat milk (after everything else is added to it you honestly can't taste the difference between skim and whole milk!). Or just get a regular coffee and add milk/cream and sugar to it yourself :).

Hope this helped you out!
