Every Day Hair Routine!

So today I'm going to be telling you guys my everyday hair routine! To start, I have naturally straight and thick hair.

SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
Currently I am using TRESemme colour revitalize shampoo and conditioner. I have kind of a funny hair situation going on because I used to get auburn highlights, but they faded to BLONDE (which did not look good in my hair) so I wanted to go back to my natural colour (dark brown) and it ended up being too dark, but it's faded now and my hair is pretty much it's natural colour (I think...) but I use colour protect shampoo anyway...:). This brand completely cleans my hair of all product residue and makes it really shiny and really soft :) Also, once a week I use either Redken Rich Defender (from the colour extend line) or a homeade deep conditioner (see the recipe here http://xpinkbeautylovex.blogspot.com/2011/08/fun-post-diy-beauty-products.html). I find myself using the Redken one more though, because it gives my colour a bit of a boost and actually protects against colour damage while the homeade one is just a really good conditioner.
Most of you have you have probably heard that it's bad to was your hair every single day (because the shampoo can dry out and damage your hair), so I recommend trying to go at least one day in between washing (just wear a shower cap on days you're not washing your hair). I actually have really dry hair, this doesn't ever really look greasy, so I go with at least two days in between every time, other wise my hair will be a dried out frizzy messsssss. So at the bottom I have tips for how to keep second (or third!....or forth...) day hair still looking nice :)

So onto my actual routine...
STEP 1:
As soon as I get out of the shower while my hair is still wet, if it had split ends or breakage I use John Frieda Full Repair Perfect Ends Sheer Mist. I only do this when my hair looks damaged though. I also usually use TRESemme 24 hour Body Foaming Mousse just to give my roots a bit of a boost. Then I lightly comb through my hair to distribute it, and put it up in a towel for about 10 minutes.

STEP 2:
While my hair is still damp I sprits a shine spray (right now I'm using one by Got2Be that's discontinued :( but if you go into any drugstore and choose one, they all do the same thing!).

STEP 3:
I almost always shower at night, no I rarely blow dry my hair..but if I was going to I would use TRESemme heat tamer spray and blow dry it in sections. I do my roots first and I flip my head upside down and point the blow dryer at my roots, but for the rest of my hair I section it with clip and blow dry it strait. But like I said, I hardly ever blow dry it so it would only be on special occasions. (Even when I shower in the morning before school I just let my hair dry naturally).

STEP 4:
I'm trying to use less heat on my hair, but I usually straighten it every time I wash it (but normally not on the days in between). My hair is naturally straight, but this is just to get rid of any puffyness. When I straighten my hair I use Got2Be Guardian Angel Heat Protectant for Flat Irons. I hardly ever straighten every layer of my hair..I usually just straighten the top layer or quickly go over my hair with out sectioning at all.

TIPS FOR IN BETWEEN SHAMPOOING:

  • put your bang into a french braid, or twisted braid since that's the area most likely to look oily first
  • braid all your hair in a side braid to hide an oily appearance,  but still keep it looking nice :)
  • avoid using heat on second day hair since it can tend to make it look greasier (especially after you spray heat protectant on it)
  • and on that note: avoid putting too much product in your hair in general, but more specifically on days in between washing
  • use dry shampoo! the one I have now is Oscar Blandi, and it's a powder. It's a really good product but it's pretty expensive and you have to get it at sephora (and I don't have one near me) so I think once I run out I'm going to try one from John Freida that also adds volume! :)

That's it! Hope you enjoyed! :)

health&fitness: Never Skip Breakfast Again!

SO we've all been told at one point or another that breakfast is the most important meal of the day...but soo many people skip it because they think they don't need it, they don't have time or what ever reason..but it's so important!! Today I'm going to share with you some really quick, easy and healthy breakfast ideas (and tips), so you never have a reason to skip it again!

TIP NUMBER ONE! if you're someone who doesn't eat breakfast because you don't have enough time try some of these ideas...
Put a piece of toast in the toaster while you're getting ready, then about 5 minutes before you head out the door its super easy to spread whatever you want on it and run out the door! I recommend low fat cream cheese or natural peanut butter :) (the natural kind is a LOT healthier because a lot of the over processed kinds have something called hydrogenated vegetable oil in them which, as well as being completely unnatural, also has more bad fats than animal fat). If you want a little bit extra grab a piece of fruit as well :)
Another super fast breakfast that's often overlooked is smoothies! Just put your favorite fruits in a blender with some milk or yogurt and in a minute it will be completely ready to just pour in a travel mug! They're also crazy healthy and if you put the right things in they can completely suppress your appetite until lunch!
Something else I like to do is keep quick (and non perishable!!) foods in my locker in case I completely run out of time one morning. I recommend a granola bar or protein bar, but be careful it's not just a chocolate bar in disguise! If it's really sugary you'll crash halfway through first period! Look for something with no more than 10-15 grams of sugar, at least 4 grams of fiber (that will keep you full longer), and since it's going to be your meal replacement, not a snack, it should have about 200-300 calories, otherwise it won't provide enough energy. This year I'm also bringing protein powder to mix with water (or sometime skim milk from the caf) for after early morning workouts, but it's definitely an acquired taste and not really necessary if you haven't just worked out, plus a granola bar will totally provide enough protein for everyday. I also keep a package of instant coffee because my caf has a hot water machine that anyone can use. :) (Well maybe not really, but they usually don't get that angry when you come use it :P)

TIP NUMBER TWO! if you usually skip breakfast because you're not hungry in the morning try these super light breakfasts...
A yogurt cup and a handful of trailmix. This is such a tiny breakfast, but will provide a ton of nutrients! Protein and calcium from the yogurt, and a source of iron, potassium and zinc from the trailmix! Also, a tip for when it's still hot out: put the yogurt in the freezer the night before! so good :)
A small bowl of cereal or granola (with either milk or yogurt) and a glass of orange juice.
A piece  of fruit, a granola bar, or small fruit smoothie!

TIP NUMBER THREE! just some random information I have acquired and thought i'd share with you :)...
Mix lean protein with complex carbs (think starches like whole wheat toast, granola, oatmeal, over sugary carbs). The carbs will make you feel full right away, while the protein will keep you full longer.
Start off healthy! People who skip breakfast in the morning, or eat a small one will little nutrients are a lot more likely to crave junk food later in the day than people who eat a healthy breakfast.
Avoid eating out, getting takeout/fast food (even cafeteria food) as often as possible for breakfast! Restaurant foods tend to have a lot of hidden fat, sugar and sodium, and most places only offer things like muffins (often loaded with sugar and bad fats) or greasy eggs and meat. Obviously it's okay to have them once in a while! For everyday, stick to homeade breakfasts. A healthy option to order however is fruit and yogurt or a whole wheat bagel. :)
Be careful with "special" coffees! As good as a mocha with whip may sound, it could have as much bad fat as 7 strips of bacon! Instead ask for your drink with extra foam and nonfat milk (after everything else is added to it you honestly can't taste the difference between skim and whole milk!). Or just get a regular coffee and add milk/cream and sugar to it yourself :).

Hope this helped you out!

Must Haves for Every Closet!

Hey Everyone! I'm ssoso sorry I haven't written in so long! But today I have a really exciting post: must have staple items for every closet! :)

 Wear with all bag
Every woman needs a go to bag that matches everything. If you don't have one already, I recommend getting one that will match everything. So a simple style and pattern (or a solid colour!), and a colour that will go with any outfit you wear (think earthy tones, black/greys, or white/beige).

White and Black Cardigans
Cardigans are the perfect sweaters because they're small so they're easy to bring places, they're light but still warm and they're very versatile. (especially in black and white!) Cardigans are perfect for unpredictable fall weather, because if you get warm you can always throw it around your shoulders (or an oversized bag!) and if you get chilly obviously you can keep it on :)

Diamond Studs!
You've all heard the expression "diamonds area a girls best friend," and it's completely true! Diamonds go with everything and diamond studs are small enough to go with every single outfit, but still had a pop of subtle glamour!

 LBD!
Seriously. The most important out of everything I'm listing! You can wear the same a little black dress for years. If you get a simple style (nothing too trendy!) and wear the right accessories with it, it will look stylish for years and years to come. You can also dress it up or dress it down depending on where you're going! Go ahead and splurge on one that flatters your body really nicely, because I promise you'll get a ton of use out of it! :)

Black or Nude Pumps
Guess what? They go with every outfit and can dress up or down any outfit! (awkward how I'm saying the same thing for every item :s But it's alllllllllll true! :) )

Perfect Pair of Jeans
If you're going to splurge on any piece of clothing, it should be a gorgeous pair of jeans that flatter you perfectly! They'll boost your confidence cause you know you look great in them, not just OK, and if you get a solid dark wash with no distress they can easily go from super casual to dressy with black high heeled boots. (PS look out for a post on the perfect jeans for your body type!)

A Classic Jacket or Coat
Will fall and winter just around the corner it's important to have a good quality classic style jacket. It could be a bomber, pea coat, trench coat, leather jacket, anything that flatters you and will give you an extra boost of confidence! :)

Keep in mind with staple items...........
  • most are black: black goes with everything, it's timeless, no one can tell how often you've worn it, it's a flattering colour on every body type, and it's easy to spice up with trendier and more colourful pieces
  • classic style: if you splurge on something really trendy you'll end up not wanting to wear it the next season because it will look, well..last season. I recommend buying fairly inexpensive trendy items so that you don't feel like you've wasted a ton of money when they go out of style.
  •  good quality: if staple items are exceptional quality they will last forever! Go ahead and splurge on these timeless items because they'll get enough wear that they pay for themselves!
  • flattering: Since you'll be wearing them a lot, your staple items should fit really well and be really flattering! :) They'll make you more confident and proud, and that will just add to how amazing they look on you! :)

Hope you enjoyed! Please leave requests in the comments? :)

get to know me: BE INTERVIEWED BY TEEN VOGUE (kinda)! tag :)

This was (sort-of) made up by kayheartsmakeup16 (http://kayheartsmakeup16.blogspot.com/), and she tagged me and so I'm doing it :P I'm gonna tell you what her intro was cause I don't really know how to explain it :P
her intro:
I was bored and flipping through the August Issue and saw the Taylor Swift article and the most importantly saw the Taylor-made Q&A. I was thinking, those questions sorta fit me, why not make a tag? p.s when doing this don't be so serious, have some fun with it! I do not own these questions, they are directly from teen vogue! No copy write intended!

so that's it :) hope you enjoy!

1. Your relationships with your close girlfriends are inspiring and seem very important to you. How do you make time to see them when you're so busy with your superstar schedule?
well. yes, I am a superstar. (:S) so balencing my life it pretty hardddddd.... but like kayla said, friendship comes first! :P (after rowing obviously...cause rowing's always first. sorry..I don't like it either (n))
2. If you could have dinner with any character from a movie, book or TV show, who would you choose and why?
umm.......does silken laumann count from the show The Olympics? I'm guessing no..but I'm going to pretend yes :) I want to meet herrrrr :D
3. What are the top three songs that are inspiring you right now?
Dare you to Move-Switchfoot, All I Ever Wanted-Brian Melo (watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkKHZnsYMM0&feature=channel_video_title that's why:)) And probably When You Wish Upon a Star-Pinocchio (kidding :) ..I just couldn't think of a third one)
4. What are your pop-culture guilty pleasures?
My Super Sweet Sixteen (I'm embarrassed to admit that) and Keeping up With the Kardasians :)
5. Do you ever get nervous before performing? How do you deal with it?
does before rowing regattas count? yes :) and I just listen to my workout playlist (alone :/) and get in the zooooone. And if anyone disrupts me I am not a happy camper. Oh, and If I don't have my ipod..I just start freaking out and complaining..a lot.
6. Describe your favourite dress you've ever worn.
hah. ummm.......I have no idea :P the only dresses I wear are sundresses and none of them are my favorites :P so I've never worn a favorite dress :o

So that's it! I didn't have fun with it like kayla suggested....I struggled to come up with answers anyway so I didn't bother to make them fun...hope you enjoyed!! (hah) Talk to you in 1 to 5 days! (:s)

Top 10 most reached for products! :)

This is going to be a post about my top 10 most reached for products! I'm really excited to share them with you so let's just get right into it :) Btw, they're in no specific order

1.  Mac Strobe Cream

I love this sooo much! I've talked about it in a post before, but since I have dry/very dry skin, it's so perfect :) It provides moisture throughout the whole day, and has iridescent particles that create a perfect subtle glow! I use it every single day even if I'm not wearing make-up. I either mix it in with my foundation/tinted moisturizer or just wear it alone with a but of concealer and sometimes mineral powder. #love

2. Physician's Formula Gel liner trio for Brown Eyes

I use the black one almost every day on my upper lash line, and once and a while I put a very thin line of the brown or purple on my lower lash line (not water line) depending on if I want a more natural look or a fun look. They're soo creamy and go on so smoothly. And to top it off you get all three for less than $15!

3. CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion (water resistant)

This mascara is my all time favorite for summer! It says water resistant but I think it's waterproof because I've never had it smudge or run. It has nooo clumps and it adds so much volume and length! <3 It's really inexpensive so I definitely recommend this to you if you're looking for a new mascara :)

 4. Mac blushcreme in Posey

It looks really bright in the picture (and in the pot) but if you just apply a little bit it's such a gorgeous pink :) The formula is really creamy and super blendable. I use it practically every day :)

5. Maybelline Quad in Chai Latte

This is my current favorite quad for everyday because it has the perfect neutral colours, and a mix of matte and shimmery so that it's not too over powering, like some other maybelline quads. :) I also sometimes use a mix of the lid and outer corner colours on my brows (they're matte).

6. Rimmel Moisture Renew lipstick in Soft Coral

The formula is really creamy and blendable, and the colour is a really neutral coral (if that makes sense :P). It's really subtle but still trendy and the perfect summer colour!

7. Revlon Illuminance Cream Shadow Quad in Skinlights

these are the perfect neutral colours :) With a primer they last all day (alone) but are also great bases for powder shadows :) My favorite is the second from the right, which is a peachy, pinky golden (think like rubenesque paint pot but a little bit more peachy than golden). I lovwearing it by itself with a bit of black liner and think mascara :) soo pretty

8. Mac Studio Sculpt Concealer

I don't really know what to say about this other than it has the perfect amount of coverage (medium-heavy but natural looking :) ) and covers under eye circles perfectly :)

9. Mac studio Moisture Tint, Tinted Moisturizer

I use this everyday for foundation, unless I'm going somewhere special and I want a more flawless look. For a tinted moisturizer it has fairly good coverage and gives mt skin kind of a velvety finish :)

10.  Physician's Formula OrganicWear Face Sculpting Trio

I use the bronzer (bottom colour) every single day (that I wear makeup) to contour my cheekbones and temples. It's the perfect subtle but buildable colour for me :) About half the time I use the highlight (top colour) but I find it's not very blendable so I usually just use a different one :)

That's it!! Hope you enjoyed! Please leave requests and feedback in the comments! :)
Thanks for reading!

health&fitness: workout playlist and super yummy protien shake..mmm:)

I'm starting to get back into being really healthy, cause I really wasn't this summer :P And this morning I had this amazing protien shake before and after my workout and I thought I'd share it with you :) I got it from this article: http://www.thestar.com/sports/olympics/article/1040976--canadian-rowing-team-enjoying-rock-star-treatment

Sprint For It Strawberry Recipe
1 Cup Frozen Strawberries
¾ Cup Almond Milk (if you don't have/can't find almond milk just use skim or soy :))
Dash of Pure Vanilla Extract (to Taste)
1 scoop of desired Vanilla Flavour Whey Protein Isolate (don't put too much in..I think my scoop is too big cause the first  time I made it all I tasted was vanilla powder :P)

Now I'm going to tell you some of my favorite songs on my workout playlist :)

Fighter-Christina Aguilera
Stronger-Destiny's Child
Heart of a Lion-Kid Cudi
Not Afraid-Eminem
Lose Yourself-Eminem
Trabadour (album)-K'naan
Milkshake (remix)-Kelis (haha)
Check it Out-Nicki Minaj

I choose songs that are really upbeat (and kind-of obnoxious), but you should choose based on the kind of workout you're doing and what kind of mood you're in while you're working out. For example, if you're going for a jog to de-stress from the day you might want more inspiring music, but if you're in a bad mood and are doing intense cardio or something you'll probably want something really upbeat and loud...:)

Hope you enjoyed! Let me know if you try the shake!

Health&Fitness: 123BeeHealthy Tag!

So in addition to the million other series I've started, I'm also starting a health and fitness series! But this will be ongoing throughout..a long time. So the post will be pretty random :) I'm pretty into health and fitness, I've kinda got off track over the summer but I'm getting into it again since school is starting soon and the fall rowing season is fast approaching! :o (eep). This is a quick tag I found, and I really wanted to do it (this is awkward cause I've never been tagged for any of the tags I'm putting up :P ohh welllll). I'm going to go by what my workout routine will be as soon as rowing season starts (practically next week :o except add a week to that....) just cause it's more exciting :)
So here are the questions:

Fitness:

Why do you workout?
I workout to feel and look good, to keep in shape and to get gold medals..:)

Describe your current workout routine.
Rowing/Cardio usually 6 mornings a week, strength training 2 or 3 times a week (usually 2 :P) and I try to do at least 15-20 minutes or yoga or stretching at the end of everyday (but I don't always)

Do you enjoy working out?
Yes :) Obviously there are days where I don't want to workout, but usually I love it :)

What is your favorite form of exercise?
Cardio (I would say running, but I haven't ran in agessssss), because I can zone out and listen to my iPod

What is your least favorite form of exercise?
Erging (rowing machines). I think almost everyone who rows hates it :P

Do you listen to your music when you workout? What's on your playlist?
Usually, not while I'm erging/rowing cause it messes up the rhythm and my technique but when I'm doing anything else, the music is my favorite part :P I'm going to do a whole post on my playlist soon :)

What is your exercise philosophy. "I think exercise should bee _____"I think exercise should be..e enjoyable and rewarding and something you love to do :)

Diet:

Are you a person who eats healthily?
I try to, but not always :P

Do you diet/count calories?
I'm not super intense about it, but I write down everything I eat and the approximate amount of calories/fat

Which foods are your staple items?
peanut butter, protein shakes, diluted orange juice (for electrolytes), BREAD <3, and popcorn :)

Are there any foods that you try to avoid?
not really...I try to moderate sweets and processed/junk foods but I'll have them sometimes

About how many times per day do you eat?
Probably 5..cause I eat a small breakfast before and after morning workouts (slightly bigger after) and then a snack between lunch and dinner...sometimes only 3 times though

Agree or disagree: Say True or False and Why you feel the way you do (all opinion)

1. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
Completely true! Cause food gives you energy and you need energy at the beginning of the day not the end

2. To lose weight or maintain weight loss, you need to cut carbohydrates.
Absolutely not. I hate when people say to cut out all fats and carbs -_- (it wont get you very far...)

3. It is bad to eat late at night.
I'd say true....but it's not horrible, you don't need energy late at night and fat may form while your sleeping, but once in a while it doesn't really matter

Stress Management

1. How do you relieve stress?
Intense cardio or by taking a nap :) (opposites...)

2. Have you ever tried yoga? Do you like it?
I took a 10 week class last year, and did it a bit in gym class this year so I don't know a lot about it but I try to do at least simple yoga followed by stretching as often as I can..

3. Do you keep a journal?
I'm assuming this means a fitness journal? I record erg times and stuff and foods but thats it :)

Hope you enjoyed! :)

Travel Series: What's in my travel makeup bag?!

On Tuesday I'm leaving for a small end of summer vacation to the Ocean :) I'm super excited! I thought it would be the perfect time to do a travel series! I'm still not done my back to school series, but I'll be putting those posts in pretty randomly until my first day of school (September 6th). Hope you enjoy!
I'm bringing kind-of a lot of make-up, only because I'm going to be doing a lot of different things and will need a lot of different looks :)
So, what am I using to store it?

So for this trip, I had a lot of extra room in my suitcase so I decided to bring my makeup train case instead of my normal soft sided/fabric make-up bag. I like this sooo much more, cause I can easily organize my make-up in the trays instead of trying to dig through one big bag looking for each product as I go. It cuts down on time, and makes getting ready less stressful! :)

This is what it looks like from the inside! There's a bunch of things buried in the bottom that you can't see, so I'm going to go more in depth :)
Oh! And it's not just make-up..I also have some skin care, and hair products :)

 FACE

  • L'Oreal studio secrets anti-dull skin primer for light skin
  • L'oreal studio secrets magic perfecting base (I have two primers because I use the first one all over my face, and this one just on areas where I need a bit more coverage and longwear (: )
  • Mac studio moisture tint (tinted moisturizer) in medium
  • Covergirl natureluxe liquid silk foundation in 315 bamboo (I have both a tint and a foundation because I'll use the tint during the day, and foundation is in case we go somewhere nice at night and I want a more flawless look)
  • Mac studio sculpt concealer in NC20
  • Maybelline Dream Matte Powder in light 4-5
  • Physicians Formula OrganicWear face sculpting trio (I use the bottom colour which is a matte bronzer for contouring)
  • Rimmel natural blush in 035 sienna
  • Mac blushcreme in Posey
  • The Body Shop tinted glow enhancer (perfect liquid highlight :)

EYES
  • Urban Decay primer potion
  • Revlon illuminating cream shadow quad in skinlights (all dupes for mac paint pots!)
  • Maybelline quads in chai latte (brown) and velvet crush (purple/silver)
  • Tweezerman eyelash curler
  • Physician's Formula gel liner trio for brown eyes
  • CoverGirl LashBlast Fusion Water Resistant Mascara in black
  • Maybelline the Falsies Mascara in black drama
  • Maybelline Great lash clear mascara (I just use this as my brow gel)
  • I totally forgot to add tweezers to these pictures, but I'll be bringing those as well :)

BRUSHES

I'm bringing all my brushes in this adorable brush roll from the body shop :)

As you can see it's totally overstuffed :P I just have my basic brushes that I use pretty much everyday :)

HAIR PRODUCTS
  • wide toothed comb and hairbrush
  • baby flat iron and heat proof bag (I was going to bring my full sized flat iron, but since I have naturally pretty straight hair I'd only use it to straighten random peices, so I'd only need this one :) )
  • Tresemme heat tamer spray
  • hair elastics, bobby pins, headband, a small clip, and a big clip for sectioning hair while I'm straightening or blow drying (if I bother with straightening or blow drying :P)
  • Tresemme touchable curls curn enhancing mousse. (Like I said before, I have straight hair that's hard to curl, but the salt from the ocean will add waves and I'll use this to make it a bit more noticeable :) )
SKINCARE/RANDOM
  • Mac strobe cream (I love love love mixing this with my foundation/tinted moisturizer, or just wearing it with no foundation and a bit of concealer under my eyes :). It makes my skin soo glowy and keeps it hydrated throughout the day :))
  • Garnier Nutritioniste skin renew anti-puff eye roller ball (under eye circles suck...a lot)
  • Sunscreen with SPF 70
  • The Body Shop shimmering coconut body lotion
  • Neutrogena illuminating foamy cream cleanzer (LOVE THIS! expect a review soon!)
  • Elizabeth Arden Intervene Eye Pause & Effect moisture eye cream
  • Mac mineralize all over lotion (I use this as my night time moisturizer over strobe cream, since strobe cream has shimmer and I don't really need that for sleeping)
  • Mac Fix+ Lavender

I'm also bring things like shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush and all that stuff :) I'll be adding to this series throughout the next couple of days, and probably while I'm gone as well.../but no guarantees that I'll be able to post while I'm gone cause I don't know if I'll have access to a computer while I'm there :(.
