How to: make your eyes look big and bright :)

HEY GUYS :) So today I'm going to be sharing 5 tips for big, bright and awake looking eyes :)

ONE Groom your brows!
  • Your eye brows frame your eyes and your entire face, so nice, tidy eyebrows=framed and open eyes :)
  • I'm planning on doing a post on how to do brows so look out for that :)
TWO Long, full, and curled lashes!
  • Place your eyelash curler at the base of your lashes, then the middle, the near the tips. Hold it for 10-15 seconds each time :) Curling your eyelashes is going to make your lashes look bigger and more open (especially if your lashes are naturally straight or you have smaller eyes)
  • FOR LENGTH coat your lashes from base to tip with a lengthening mascara. When it dries, use very short almost tapping strokes on the very tips of your lashes to extend them out
  • FOR VOLUME after using a lengthening mascara all over, focus a volumeizing mascara on the outer half or your lases, and when it dries use the same tapping technique from above on the base of your lashes for ultimate volume!
THREE beware of dark eye shadows!
  • If you're looking for bright eyes, stay away from deep dark smokey eyes!!
  • Use lighter shimmery champagne/browns on your lid, focusing the colour on the middle of your lid
  • For the crease use a slightler deeper matte brown to define your eyes
FOUR line and define :)
  • Putting black eyeliner on the lower waterline will make almost everyone's eyes appear smaller and closer together. I avoid using dark colours on my waterline for this reason, but if you really like the look of it I recommend just putting it on the outer half :)
  • For an alternative to harsh blacks and dark brows use a white (makes your eyes look really big!) or a blue which is flattering to every eye colour)
  • you can also skip the waterline all together and just draw a very thin line on your lower lash line :)
  • Also, to add to your lashes, line your tightline (upper water line) and upperlashline with a black liner
FIVE brighten your inner corners
  • pat a little bit of light shimmery eyeshadow in the inner tear duct area of your eyes
  • For a more natural look go for a brown that's slightly lighter than your skin tone, but for a more dramatic look go for a shimmery silver :)
Hope this was helpful!!

Get to know me: Would you Rather, Beauty Edition!

So this tag was going around on youtube and I thought it would be fun to do :) There are two 10 question tags on youtube, and I just did both :)
So lets just get into it!

Tag #1

#1. Would you rather go out with messy hair and nice make-up, or nice hair and no make-up?
It depends on if it's nice messy hair (like bedhead) cause that with nice make-up would be pretty..but if it's rat's nest messy I think I would prefer nice hair and no make up :)
#2. Would you rather shave your eyebrows or have your eyelashes fall out?
Um..I guess I'd choose to have my eyelashes fall out :P Only because I could wear false lashes and have
them look somewhat natural, but it's really hard to draw on your brows and have them look natural :P WAIT. if I shaved them would they grow back? hmm...
#3. Would you rather be forced to shop at only MAC or Sephora for the rest of your life?
So...I think I choose MAC..but just cause the only thing we have in my town is a MAC counter, and there's no Sephora near me so I only go there when I'm in bigger cities (ie. I never go out of my way to go there). If I had both in my town though I'd probably choose Sephora because it has more of a selection/more brands
#4. Would you rather wear the lipgloss/lipliner look or 80's perm?
haha,,I guess lipliner/lipgloss...but I wouldn't be happy about it
#5. Would you rather leave the house with an obvious foundation line or overdone blush?
hmm...i think overdone blush
#6. Would you rather wear MC Hammer pants or biker shorts in public?
biker shorts! :) i wear those in public quite a lot :P
#7. Would you rather have a bad orange-y spray tan or really weird tan lines that can't be covered?
I don't mind tan lines...so tan lines :)
#8. Would you rather have a bad haircut or bad hair color?
A cut because it will grow out/go away faster :) unless I re dyed right after.. but then my hair would be really damaged :s
#9. Would you rather have youtube or twitter taken away forever?
twitterrrr
#10. Would you rather give up using makeup brushes or mascara?
I guess I would pick..mascara because I could use false lashes.. but without brushes I could apply most things, but not powdered things.. so no mascara would probably be easier :)

NUMBER TWO! :)

#1. Would you rather walk around all day with you skirt tucked in your underwear or be seen wearing a really see through dress?
See through dress, cause at least I'll be somewhat coveredddd
#2. Would you rather go to a party and not realize until the end of the night that you have lipstick on your teeth or that your fake lashes are coming unglued?
False eyelashes...because (I don't know why) but I feel like people look at your mouth more than you eyes...? Like when you talk and stuff :P so lipstick on my teeth would probably be more noticeable
#3. Would you rather forget to put mascara on one eye or forget blush on one side of your face?
I think mascara would be more obvious (because I use more natural coloured blushes) so I would rather       forget blush :)
#4. Would you rather wear lipstick/lipliner combo or frosty blue eyeshadow?             Same answer as before :)
#5. Would you rather wear foundation that is two shades too light or go way overboard on bronzer?
too light foundation because even when I only wear a little bit of bronzer it looks really unnatural on me :P
#6. Would you rather drink an entire bottle of ketchup or run into the guy who broke your heart on a bad hair day when your skin is freaking out?
I don't think I could ever get through a whole bottle of ketchup :P and fyi if some loooser broke my heart I don't care what he thinks of me :P (jks) I would choose the second one :P
#7. Would you rather be able to date any celeb you wanted or wake up with perfect red carpet-worthy hair?
PERFECT HAIR.
#8. Would you rather your armpits smell musky or like delicious lasagna?
ew...:P. This might sound dumb but I don't actually know what musky smells like :P so I'm going to pick that and pretend it smells good :)
#9. Would you rather give up your makeup or cell phone for one year?
I think my cell phone :S cause I use it a lot now, but I'd probably get used to not having one fast enough..and people could just call my house phone or fb me if they needed to talk to me. easy peasyyy
Would you rather run into a cute guy you like with food all in your grill or no makeup at all?

no make up at all :P

That's it! if you've done these tags let me know in the comments and I'd love to read them! :)
oh, and I tag all of you! :)

thanks for reading!

Every Day Hair Routine!

So today I'm going to be telling you guys my everyday hair routine! To start, I have naturally straight and thick hair.

SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
Currently I am using TRESemme colour revitalize shampoo and conditioner. I have kind of a funny hair situation going on because I used to get auburn highlights, but they faded to BLONDE (which did not look good in my hair) so I wanted to go back to my natural colour (dark brown) and it ended up being too dark, but it's faded now and my hair is pretty much it's natural colour (I think...) but I use colour protect shampoo anyway...:). This brand completely cleans my hair of all product residue and makes it really shiny and really soft :) Also, once a week I use either Redken Rich Defender (from the colour extend line) or a homeade deep conditioner (see the recipe here http://xpinkbeautylovex.blogspot.com/2011/08/fun-post-diy-beauty-products.html). I find myself using the Redken one more though, because it gives my colour a bit of a boost and actually protects against colour damage while the homeade one is just a really good conditioner.
Most of you have you have probably heard that it's bad to was your hair every single day (because the shampoo can dry out and damage your hair), so I recommend trying to go at least one day in between washing (just wear a shower cap on days you're not washing your hair). I actually have really dry hair, this doesn't ever really look greasy, so I go with at least two days in between every time, other wise my hair will be a dried out frizzy messsssss. So at the bottom I have tips for how to keep second (or third!....or forth...) day hair still looking nice :)

So onto my actual routine...
STEP 1:
As soon as I get out of the shower while my hair is still wet, if it had split ends or breakage I use John Frieda Full Repair Perfect Ends Sheer Mist. I only do this when my hair looks damaged though. I also usually use TRESemme 24 hour Body Foaming Mousse just to give my roots a bit of a boost. Then I lightly comb through my hair to distribute it, and put it up in a towel for about 10 minutes.

STEP 2:
While my hair is still damp I sprits a shine spray (right now I'm using one by Got2Be that's discontinued :( but if you go into any drugstore and choose one, they all do the same thing!).

STEP 3:
I almost always shower at night, no I rarely blow dry my hair..but if I was going to I would use TRESemme heat tamer spray and blow dry it in sections. I do my roots first and I flip my head upside down and point the blow dryer at my roots, but for the rest of my hair I section it with clip and blow dry it strait. But like I said, I hardly ever blow dry it so it would only be on special occasions. (Even when I shower in the morning before school I just let my hair dry naturally).

STEP 4:
I'm trying to use less heat on my hair, but I usually straighten it every time I wash it (but normally not on the days in between). My hair is naturally straight, but this is just to get rid of any puffyness. When I straighten my hair I use Got2Be Guardian Angel Heat Protectant for Flat Irons. I hardly ever straighten every layer of my hair..I usually just straighten the top layer or quickly go over my hair with out sectioning at all.

TIPS FOR IN BETWEEN SHAMPOOING:

  • put your bang into a french braid, or twisted braid since that's the area most likely to look oily first
  • braid all your hair in a side braid to hide an oily appearance,  but still keep it looking nice :)
  • avoid using heat on second day hair since it can tend to make it look greasier (especially after you spray heat protectant on it)
  • and on that note: avoid putting too much product in your hair in general, but more specifically on days in between washing
  • use dry shampoo! the one I have now is Oscar Blandi, and it's a powder. It's a really good product but it's pretty expensive and you have to get it at sephora (and I don't have one near me) so I think once I run out I'm going to try one from John Freida that also adds volume! :)

That's it! Hope you enjoyed! :)

health&fitness: Never Skip Breakfast Again!

SO we've all been told at one point or another that breakfast is the most important meal of the day...but soo many people skip it because they think they don't need it, they don't have time or what ever reason..but it's so important!! Today I'm going to share with you some really quick, easy and healthy breakfast ideas (and tips), so you never have a reason to skip it again!

TIP NUMBER ONE! if you're someone who doesn't eat breakfast because you don't have enough time try some of these ideas...
Put a piece of toast in the toaster while you're getting ready, then about 5 minutes before you head out the door its super easy to spread whatever you want on it and run out the door! I recommend low fat cream cheese or natural peanut butter :) (the natural kind is a LOT healthier because a lot of the over processed kinds have something called hydrogenated vegetable oil in them which, as well as being completely unnatural, also has more bad fats than animal fat). If you want a little bit extra grab a piece of fruit as well :)
Another super fast breakfast that's often overlooked is smoothies! Just put your favorite fruits in a blender with some milk or yogurt and in a minute it will be completely ready to just pour in a travel mug! They're also crazy healthy and if you put the right things in they can completely suppress your appetite until lunch!
Something else I like to do is keep quick (and non perishable!!) foods in my locker in case I completely run out of time one morning. I recommend a granola bar or protein bar, but be careful it's not just a chocolate bar in disguise! If it's really sugary you'll crash halfway through first period! Look for something with no more than 10-15 grams of sugar, at least 4 grams of fiber (that will keep you full longer), and since it's going to be your meal replacement, not a snack, it should have about 200-300 calories, otherwise it won't provide enough energy. This year I'm also bringing protein powder to mix with water (or sometime skim milk from the caf) for after early morning workouts, but it's definitely an acquired taste and not really necessary if you haven't just worked out, plus a granola bar will totally provide enough protein for everyday. I also keep a package of instant coffee because my caf has a hot water machine that anyone can use. :) (Well maybe not really, but they usually don't get that angry when you come use it :P)

TIP NUMBER TWO! if you usually skip breakfast because you're not hungry in the morning try these super light breakfasts...
A yogurt cup and a handful of trailmix. This is such a tiny breakfast, but will provide a ton of nutrients! Protein and calcium from the yogurt, and a source of iron, potassium and zinc from the trailmix! Also, a tip for when it's still hot out: put the yogurt in the freezer the night before! so good :)
A small bowl of cereal or granola (with either milk or yogurt) and a glass of orange juice.
A piece  of fruit, a granola bar, or small fruit smoothie!

TIP NUMBER THREE! just some random information I have acquired and thought i'd share with you :)...
Mix lean protein with complex carbs (think starches like whole wheat toast, granola, oatmeal, over sugary carbs). The carbs will make you feel full right away, while the protein will keep you full longer.
Start off healthy! People who skip breakfast in the morning, or eat a small one will little nutrients are a lot more likely to crave junk food later in the day than people who eat a healthy breakfast.
Avoid eating out, getting takeout/fast food (even cafeteria food) as often as possible for breakfast! Restaurant foods tend to have a lot of hidden fat, sugar and sodium, and most places only offer things like muffins (often loaded with sugar and bad fats) or greasy eggs and meat. Obviously it's okay to have them once in a while! For everyday, stick to homeade breakfasts. A healthy option to order however is fruit and yogurt or a whole wheat bagel. :)
Be careful with "special" coffees! As good as a mocha with whip may sound, it could have as much bad fat as 7 strips of bacon! Instead ask for your drink with extra foam and nonfat milk (after everything else is added to it you honestly can't taste the difference between skim and whole milk!). Or just get a regular coffee and add milk/cream and sugar to it yourself :).

Hope this helped you out!

Must Haves for Every Closet!

Hey Everyone! I'm ssoso sorry I haven't written in so long! But today I have a really exciting post: must have staple items for every closet! :)

 Wear with all bag
Every woman needs a go to bag that matches everything. If you don't have one already, I recommend getting one that will match everything. So a simple style and pattern (or a solid colour!), and a colour that will go with any outfit you wear (think earthy tones, black/greys, or white/beige).

White and Black Cardigans
Cardigans are the perfect sweaters because they're small so they're easy to bring places, they're light but still warm and they're very versatile. (especially in black and white!) Cardigans are perfect for unpredictable fall weather, because if you get warm you can always throw it around your shoulders (or an oversized bag!) and if you get chilly obviously you can keep it on :)

Diamond Studs!
You've all heard the expression "diamonds area a girls best friend," and it's completely true! Diamonds go with everything and diamond studs are small enough to go with every single outfit, but still had a pop of subtle glamour!

 LBD!
Seriously. The most important out of everything I'm listing! You can wear the same a little black dress for years. If you get a simple style (nothing too trendy!) and wear the right accessories with it, it will look stylish for years and years to come. You can also dress it up or dress it down depending on where you're going! Go ahead and splurge on one that flatters your body really nicely, because I promise you'll get a ton of use out of it! :)

Black or Nude Pumps
Guess what? They go with every outfit and can dress up or down any outfit! (awkward how I'm saying the same thing for every item :s But it's alllllllllll true! :) )

Perfect Pair of Jeans
If you're going to splurge on any piece of clothing, it should be a gorgeous pair of jeans that flatter you perfectly! They'll boost your confidence cause you know you look great in them, not just OK, and if you get a solid dark wash with no distress they can easily go from super casual to dressy with black high heeled boots. (PS look out for a post on the perfect jeans for your body type!)

A Classic Jacket or Coat
Will fall and winter just around the corner it's important to have a good quality classic style jacket. It could be a bomber, pea coat, trench coat, leather jacket, anything that flatters you and will give you an extra boost of confidence! :)

Keep in mind with staple items...........
  • most are black: black goes with everything, it's timeless, no one can tell how often you've worn it, it's a flattering colour on every body type, and it's easy to spice up with trendier and more colourful pieces
  • classic style: if you splurge on something really trendy you'll end up not wanting to wear it the next season because it will look, well..last season. I recommend buying fairly inexpensive trendy items so that you don't feel like you've wasted a ton of money when they go out of style.
  •  good quality: if staple items are exceptional quality they will last forever! Go ahead and splurge on these timeless items because they'll get enough wear that they pay for themselves!
  • flattering: Since you'll be wearing them a lot, your staple items should fit really well and be really flattering! :) They'll make you more confident and proud, and that will just add to how amazing they look on you! :)

Hope you enjoyed! Please leave requests in the comments? :)

get to know me: BE INTERVIEWED BY TEEN VOGUE (kinda)! tag :)

This was (sort-of) made up by kayheartsmakeup16 (http://kayheartsmakeup16.blogspot.com/), and she tagged me and so I'm doing it :P I'm gonna tell you what her intro was cause I don't really know how to explain it :P
her intro:
I was bored and flipping through the August Issue and saw the Taylor Swift article and the most importantly saw the Taylor-made Q&A. I was thinking, those questions sorta fit me, why not make a tag? p.s when doing this don't be so serious, have some fun with it! I do not own these questions, they are directly from teen vogue! No copy write intended!

so that's it :) hope you enjoy!

1. Your relationships with your close girlfriends are inspiring and seem very important to you. How do you make time to see them when you're so busy with your superstar schedule?
well. yes, I am a superstar. (:S) so balencing my life it pretty hardddddd.... but like kayla said, friendship comes first! :P (after rowing obviously...cause rowing's always first. sorry..I don't like it either (n))
2. If you could have dinner with any character from a movie, book or TV show, who would you choose and why?
umm.......does silken laumann count from the show The Olympics? I'm guessing no..but I'm going to pretend yes :) I want to meet herrrrr :D
3. What are the top three songs that are inspiring you right now?
Dare you to Move-Switchfoot, All I Ever Wanted-Brian Melo (watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkKHZnsYMM0&feature=channel_video_title that's why:)) And probably When You Wish Upon a Star-Pinocchio (kidding :) ..I just couldn't think of a third one)
4. What are your pop-culture guilty pleasures?
My Super Sweet Sixteen (I'm embarrassed to admit that) and Keeping up With the Kardasians :)
5. Do you ever get nervous before performing? How do you deal with it?
does before rowing regattas count? yes :) and I just listen to my workout playlist (alone :/) and get in the zooooone. And if anyone disrupts me I am not a happy camper. Oh, and If I don't have my ipod..I just start freaking out and complaining..a lot.
6. Describe your favourite dress you've ever worn.
hah. ummm.......I have no idea :P the only dresses I wear are sundresses and none of them are my favorites :P so I've never worn a favorite dress :o

So that's it! I didn't have fun with it like kayla suggested....I struggled to come up with answers anyway so I didn't bother to make them fun...hope you enjoyed!! (hah) Talk to you in 1 to 5 days! (:s)
